Edgar James specializes in labor, employment, and nonprofit organization law. In addition to his labor practice, James advises a number of marketing, polling, and public relations firms.
James holds a JD from Harvard Law School and a MPH from the Harvard School of Public Health. While at Harvard, James conducted seminars on the labor movement and on occupational health and safety at the John F. Kennedy School’s Institute of Politics, and was an articles editor for the Harvard Civil Rights-Civil Liberties Law Review, where he authored a law review article on union democracy. Prior to law school, James spent five years running an insurgent campaign in the mineworkers election following the murder of the Yablonski family, and then served as a senior staff member and organizer within the union.
James serves on the boards of a number of nonprofit organizations. He is a member of the District of Columbia and Maryland state bar associations and is admitted to practice before most federal appellate courts and the Supreme Court. He has been awarded an AV rating by Martindale Hubbell, the highest rating achievable by attorneys, is listed in Best Lawyers in America, and was voted a District of Columbia Superlawyer.
