Privacy Policy
Qvisory believes in the importance of your privacy. This Privacy Policy describes the information we collect through the Qvisory Website and what we do with that information. By using or accessing the Qvisory Website, you are accepting the practices described in this Privacy Policy.
How, When, and Why We Collect Information
- Activity That Doesn't Require Registration. You can view content on the Qvisory Website without being a Registered User of Qvisory or providing any personal information. When you enter Qvisory, we collect information such as your browser and operating system type and IP address to optimize your experience on the Website and to track aggregate Website usage. In addition, we use a "session" cookie to identify you while you are on the Website, if cookies are enabled on your computer. This session cookie terminates once you finish using the Website and close your browser.
- Commenting. To post a text or video comment on a blog post, pact, or TakeAction activity, if you are not already logged in, you will be asked to enter a username and email address. You may also enter your website address if you wish to do so. Your username will then appear next to your comment. If you have provided your website address, your username will be linked to your website.
- Activity Requiring Registration. Certain activities on Qvisory—making a Pact, or participating in some of the Take Action campaigns—require you to be a Registered User. To become a Registered User, we ask you to create a username and password, and provide your e-mail address. The password you create is used to protect your account from unauthorized access. You can remove or block this cookie using the settings in your browser if you want to disable this convenience feature. You may also be asked to provide certain additional information to participate in other Qvisory activities. For example, in connection with a Take Action campaign, we may ask for your zip code in order to ensure your advocacy messages reach your proper representative. You may update or correct your personal account information and email preferences at any time by visiting your account profile page.
- Activity Requiring Qvisory Membership. When you enroll as a Qvisory Member, we ask for certain additional information, including your name and address. In order to pay for your Membership, you will also be required to enter your credit card or PayPal information. However, your credit card or PayPal information is used only to process your payment and is not stored on Qvisory’s servers.
- Mailing List. In the My Account section, when you click on Edit My Account, you can select whether you wish to receive emails from Qvisory.
- Usage Information. We may record information about your usage of Qvisory, such as when you use Qvisory, the areas of the site you click on and/or participate in, the tags you search for, and whether or not you subscribe to the RSS feed. If you are logged in, we may associate that information with your account. A persistent cookie may be used to track this information. We may use pixel tags and trackable links in HTML-based emails sent to our users to track which emails are opened and/or clicked on by recipients.
- Comments Posted to the Site. Any personal information or content that you voluntarily disclose online (in Blog comments, Pacts, etc.) becomes publicly available and can be collected and used by others. Your username (not your email address) is displayed to other Qvisory users when you post Comments or make Pacts, and other users can contact you through posting Comments on the site. You should exercise caution not to provide any personally identifying information or other information that you would not want seen by others. Use of the community functions on Qvisory is at your own risk.
- Tell A Friend Information. If you choose to use our invitation service to tell a friend about our site, we will ask you for information needed to send the invitation, such as your friend's email address. We will automatically send your friend a single email inviting him or her to visit the site.
- Polls and Surveys. From time to time, Qvisory will perform polls and surveys. Information collected through our polls, surveys, and questionnaires is used in the aggregate, unless we contact you to request permission to use your individual responses for a particular purpose.
- We do not knowingly collect any information from children under the age of 13.
Uses of Personal Information
- If you submit personal information to Qvisory, we may use this information (i) to facilitate your use of the Pacts feature, advocacy activities, Member benefits (if you become a Member), and other Qvisory services; (ii) to improve our provision of products and services to you, including the display and production of customized content and advertising; and (iii) to ensure the technical functioning of our Website and network. We may provide information to Qvisory's affiliated entities, as well as third party service providers, to facilitate and carry out these uses.
- We will use your email address to communicate with you about Qvisory’s activities and offerings, unless you opt out from receiving such messages. We will also use your email address for administrative purposes, such as notifying you of major Qvisory Website changes, sending messages related to actions you have taken on the site, or for customer service purposes. Although we hope you'll find these communications informative and useful, if you don't, you can always unsubscribe by following the simple instructions included in each email. When you send email or other communications to us, we may retain those communications in order to process your inquiries, respond to your requests, and improve our services.
- We use both your personally identifying information and certain non-personally-identifying information (such as anonymous usage data, IP addresses, browser type, clickstream data, etc.) to improve the quality of your user experience and the design of the Qvisory Website and to create new features, functionality, and services by storing, tracking, and analyzing user behavior, preferences, trends, and actions.
Other Disclosures
We may be required to disclose user information pursuant to lawful requests, such as subpoenas or court orders, or in compliance with applicable laws. Additionally, we may share account or other information when we believe it is necessary to comply with the law, to protect our interests or property, to prevent fraud or other illegal activity perpetrated through the Qvisory service or using the Qvisory name, to prevent bodily harm, to enforce our Terms of Service, or to protect the rights, property or safety of visitors to our site, our customers, the public or Qvisory. In the unlikely event that Qvisory (or substantially all of its assets) is acquired by another entity, information on our visitors would be among the transferred assets.
Information Security and Data Integrity
- Qvisory takes security measures to protect against unauthorized access to or unauthorized alteration, disclosure or destruction of data. These include internal reviews of our data collection, storage and processing practices and security measures, as well as physical security measures to guard against unauthorized access to systems where we store personal data.
- Qvisory uses personal information only for the purposes for which it was collected and in accordance with this Policy. We restrict access to personal information to Qvisory employees, affiliates, contractors and agents who need to know that information in order to operate, develop or improve our services. These individuals are bound by confidentiality obligations and may be subject to discipline, including termination and criminal prosecution, if they fail to meet these obligations.
