General Questions
- Q. Why is there a need for something like Qvisory?
On average, Americans change jobs nine times between the ages of 18 to 34. We have the highest levels of debt of any generation at a comparable age. We go in and out of having healthcare coverage as we move from school to job to job, and the price of healthcare keeps rising, forcing some of us to choose between paying for health care or basics such as rent or food.
With all of these problems, young people are not hearing the solutions they need from elected leaders in Washigton. While corporations and older Americans are well represented in Congress, our voices are not getting heard.
Qvisory's goal is to provide the education, tools, and voice to help pave the road to success for the next generation of Americans.
- Q. Why the name Qvisory?
Qvisory (cue-vie-so-ry) is about providing valuable information, products, and tools that help advise young adults with their money, work, and health concerns. The “Q” implies quality and the “visory” invokes our advisory role.
- Q. What is the structure of Qvisory?
Qvisory's structure mirrors that of the AARP. We are a 501(c)(4) nonprofit membership and advocacy organization with a wholly owned subsidiary organization, Qvisory Services, Inc., that distributes the products that are not included in our membership. We also have a separate 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, the Qvisory Education Fund, which provides educational information. You can find out more on the About and Structure and Board pages.
- Q. Who funded you and how are you governed?
We received initial funding from the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), individual donors, and The Rockefeller Foundation. All three of our entities are governed by individual Boards of Directors. More details can be found under Structure and Board.
- Q. How is Qvisory giving a voice to young adults in Washington?
Qvisory is focused on money, work, and health issues and how they affect young adults, who face a unique set of challenges in today's evolving economy—challenges that don't make the top of the list for the people who hold the reins of control in Washington, corporations, and local governments.
Qvisory believes young adults should have a voice in shaping the money, work, and health policies and practices that can either help or hurt us such as:
- Fair credit card company practices
- Access to quality healthcare that young people can afford
- First-time home buyer savings programs
- Quality, affordable childcare
- Fair pay for all
- Paid family leave
- Programs that will make college affordable for all
Our goal is to have an ongoing dialogue with our community to ensure that we are focused on the issues that matter the most to them. Over time, we will introduce new campaigns on other issues that emerge from our community.
