Do you have health-related questions? Need an idea of where to look for answers?
Check out the following sites to find information:
- WebMD has an encyclopedic approach to health information. You can look up articles, find doctors, read about product recalls, find drug interactions, and describe your symptoms online to determine what your problem might be. This was the top online health destination in November 2006, with 9.5 million visitors.
- The National Institutes of Health is the health information site of the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services. Don't look here for alternative or spiritual treatments, but if you want to know what the healthcare consensus is, based on rigorous testing, then this is where to look. In addition, NIH's Finding Reliable Health Information Online does just that, clearly, in detail, and with helpful links.
- Planned Parenthood is the website of America's leading sexual and reproductive healthcare advocate and provider. Their website offers comprehensive, up to date, and easy to read information on birth control, emergency contraception, abortion, pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases, gynecological exams, and sexuality.
- Go Ask Alice is Columbia University's health Q&A site that aims to "provide readers with reliable, accessible, culturally competent information and a range of thoughtful perspectives…" The site answers questions about relationships, sexuality, sexual health, emotional health, fitness, nutrition, general health, and alcohol, nicotine, and other drugs. Inquiries are answered, and are encrypted to ensure anonymity.
