A Word About MyEsafeDepositBox's Privacy and Security

A Word About MyEsafeDepositBox’s Privacy and Security

MyEsafeDepositBox (MESDB) offers a secure environment to store your personal records.

While MESDB is a third party and therefore not subject to HIPAA guidelines, they voluntarily follow them and employ an attorney who specializes in HIPAA.  HIPAA sets privacy and security standards for the transmittal of electronic health care documents.  Because MESDB follows HIPAA, you can be confident your information is held to the same privacy and security standards followed by health insurance companies and medical institutions.

MESDB takes the highest precautions to protect your data.  The technology that underlies the MyEsafeDepositBox.com voice and fax communications portal was built and is hosted by the same company that handles transactions for many of the nation's major financial institutions and Fortune 1000 companies.

When faxing documents, “plain old telephone service” (POTS) is used.  POTS is very reliable and secure, as your records are sent directly from your fax machine to your private lifeline.

The website employs SSL encryption, which provides members with a secure environment for data transfer.  MESDB uses an extremely secure 256 bit encryption, whereas most secure sites – including financial institutions – use a 128 bit encryption.  Whether uploading or accessing records, it is done securely.  Also, there is no way to transfer documents in and out of your MESDB account through public methods (e.g. email).

MESDB maintains multiple servers in case one fails.  Access to the physical data servers is restricted to employees with Smart Card access.  Your data are protected through the use of firewalls, multiple levels of network security, data encryption, and user passwords.

MESDB employees do not have access to your records, including your passwords.  They do not know what information is in your records and do not analyze your data.  The company plainly states, “We do not sell or plan to sell this information to anyone.”
