EUREKA Tips

Tips for Using EUREKA

EUREKA is a website designed to help you navigate your career.  It can provide valuable information to people from all ends of the job search spectrum.  For people who are in school, there are self-evaluation tools and occupation descriptions that will help you find a career that fits who you are and what you hope to accomplish.

Others who are farther along in their career will also gain valuable insight from EUREKA.  The self-evaluation quizzes will help you evaluate whether your job is right for your personality type and the educational resources can point you in the right direction if you want to change careers or advance your training.

Here are some tips to help you use this tool to your best advantage:

  • Think of the website as a series of steps.  It is broken down into three sections: My Self-Assessment, My Careers, and My Education.  The first section, My Self-Assessment, provides the foundation you’ll need to use the other two sections.  Once you’ve evaluated your skills and personality you’ll be better equipped to explore suitable jobs and educational programs.
  • Go with your gut.  When taking self-assessment tests, the instinctive answer is usually the best.  Answering the questions instinctively is more likely to provide you with insightful and accurate test results.
  • Explore your options.  If your test results provide you with a list of possible occupations, take the time to look at those occupations using the My Careers section.  By exploring a multitude of careers, you will gain greater insight into what you’re looking for in your next career.
  • Plan your next move.  Once you know which profession interests you, it’s time to evaluate your next step.  If you lack the training and education to do the job you want, EUREKA can help you figure out how to fix that problem.  The My Education section will provide you with a list of the schools and resources that can give you the skills you need to do the job you love.
  • Take it slow.  You won’t be able to digest all the information on this site in one day and will likely get overwhelmed if you try.  Most importantly, don’t try taking all the quizzes in one day.  Not only will you be exhausted but your results may become affected as well.  Instead, go at your own pace to ensure that you’re getting the most out of the site.
